George D. Potter is the author of 13 documentary films and 7 published books: Lehi In the Wilderness (Endorsed by LDS scholar Hugh Nibley); The Voyages of the Book of Mormon; Wise Man of Bountiful; Nephi In the Promised Land, 10 More Amazing Discoveries, the White Bedouin, and his newest book Discovering the Amazing Jaredites. George Potter has made presentations for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Chaplains Conference), the Ensign Magazine, BYU and many LDS stakes and wards. While living in Saudi Arabia for 27 years, he traveled extensively exploring Lehi’s Trail. He is credited for discovering candidates for Book of Mormon sites:  the Valley of Lemuel, Shazer, Most Fertile Parts, Bountiful and Nephi’s Harbor. In Peru, he discovered candidates for the land of the Jaredites, the cities of Nephi, Zarahemla, and Bountiful, as well as, sites for Book of Mormon battles, the narrow neck of land, the 4 seas of the Book of Mormon, etc.

George Potter is a CPA by profession and earned a Master’s Degree from the University of California, Berkeley). He is married to Cristina Potter also a Certified Public Accountant. George and Cristina live in Elk Ridge, Utah. Join George on this amazing Book of Mormon Tour.

 

 

Day 01: WELCOME TO PERU!!!

Upon your arrival at the Jorge Chávez International Airport you will be transferred to your hotel in Lima. Rest and enjoy an evening presentation by George Potter on Peru, the Land of the Book of Mormon.

 

 

Day 02: LIMA, THE JAREDITE LAND OF DESOLATION

huaca huallamarcaToday we visit the Book of Mormon’s Land of Desolation, the actual region the Incas called “the land of the people of desolation.” As the Spanish city of Lima expanded all but 2 of its 37 ancient pyramids were destroyed. We will visit to two remaining pyramids. Later we will enter the Museum of Gold. This spectacular and unique museum is dedicated to Metallurgy, a technology the Book of Mormon people mastered in Peru, yet metalwork did not exist in Book of Mormon times north of Panama. The Museum has a collection of eight thousand pieces, many made ​​by goldsmiths during the Book of Mormon period. In this museum we can find a variety of artifacts such as precious gold and silver artifacts, multiple textiles, ceramics, mummies, trophy heads and replicas  of articles from lord of Sipan, a tomb comparable to the Egyptian Pharaoh Tutankhamen.

 

LimaFinally, we visit the Historical Center of Lima, where you will appreciate monuments and buildings of the colonial period, such as the Paseo de la República, the San Martín Square, the Main Square, the Government Palace, the Archbishop’s Palace, the Cathedral Basilica, and the City Council Palace. Our final highlight will be the visit of the underground vaults, known as “Catacumbas” or Catacombs. In the evening you will enjoy a traditional Peruvian dinner.

Day 03: CARAL, HOME OF THE JAREDITES

Resultado de imagen para caralEarly pick-up from the hotel. Departure to the Archaeological Centers Áspero and Caral. George Potter will provide a presentation on the Jaredites of Caral during the bus ride. At mid-morning arrival at Áspero Valley. The valley dates to the period of the early Jaredites, pre-dating any civilizations north of Panama by over a thousand years.

 

 

 

We will visit the Citadel of Caral located in the left side of the lower half valley of Supe. It occupies 163 acres. It comprises a central zone with 32 public structures and several residential complexes. In the central space of the Sacred City of Caral are the public and domestic buildings that were of greater status. Late afternoon bus ride back to Lima.

Day 04: NARROW NECK OF LAND AND THE SACRED CITY OF PACHACAMAC

Image result for pachacamac peruEarly in the morning, transfer from your hotel in Lima to take the Bus to Pachacamac. Visit the Sanctuary of the Pachacamac God, believed to be the creator of the universe adored by some old Andean civilizations. The site comprises the Temple of the Sun, the Temple of Pachacamac and the Acllahuasi or Palace of the Virgins of the Sun. Pachacamac on the “West Sea” is the beginning of the Book of Mormon’s “narrow neck of land.” We will drive a short distance into the narrow neck then proceed to Paracas for our overnight stay.

Day 05: THE LAND OF BOUNTIFUL PARACAS – NAZCA – LIMA  

 

nascaParacas Candelabra We will take our private bus to Nazca, the land of Bountiful. George Potter will prepare you for the Land of Bountiful during the bus ride. At Nazca we will transfer to Nazca Airport for a 45-minute flight over the enigmatic Nazca Lines. These enormous lineal drawings of animals, birds and geometric figures remain etched in the desert. They can only be appreciated from the air. Visit the museum in Nazca, the mummies in the ancient cemetery of Cahuachi and the temples of Bountiful, in the ruins of Cahuachi, a candidate location where Christ appeared to the Nephites. Late evening bus ride through the desert and coastal valleys back to Lima. During the ride George will provide information on Cusco, the City of Nephi. Transfer to your Hotel in Lima.

Day 06 LIMA - CUSCO – THE CITY OF NEPHI

Cusco callesTransfer to Lima´s Airport to take your flight to Cusco. Morning at leisure to rest and acclimatize to the high altitude. In the afternoon, we will have a guided sightseeing tour of Cusco visiting the Main Square, the Cathedral and the Temple of the Sun or Korikancha (Nephi’s Temple) and optionally the colorful San Pedro Market.

Day 07 CUSCO – SACSAYHUAMAN – SACRED VALLEY

Drive out of the city to visit the impressive Fortress of Sacsayhuaman, of Book of Mormon fame. The fortress was strategically built on a hill overlooking Cusco and famous for its enormous carved stones, some of them standing over 9m / 30ft high and weighing over 350 tons. Continue to the green and fertile Sacred Valley of the Incas defined by imposing mountains. On our way you can visit the famous Pisac market where you can buy alpaca goods and other souvenirs. Next we head to Urubamba where you can enjoy a traditional picnic lunch. We will stop along the way to visit an orphanage.

 

Sacred-valley-incasIn the afternoon we invite you to visit the great Inca fortress of Ollantaytambo, where the Incas led by Manco Inca defeated the Spanish for the first time. We will board the train to Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu. Reception and transfer to your hotel in Aguas Calientes, your guide will give an explanation of the timing of the tour to Machu Picchu the next day.

DAY 08 MACHUPICCHU

Early in the morning, after taking a 25 minutes bus ride we get to the great Inca city: Machu Picchu, one of the new Seven Wonders of the World. We will be given a tour of the Incan streets and interesting places like the Temple of the Sun, the shrine of the Pachamama, Quarries, the Solar Clock or Intihuatana, among others amazing places. After the tour you will have your own time to enjoy beautiful Machu Picchu. In the afternoon you will have a train ride back to Ollantaytambo and from the train station we will transport you on a private bus back to the hotel. Overnight at hotel in Cusco.

Day 09 CUSCO TO ZARAHEMLA

Andahuaylillas 2Breakfast. Early departure by bus from the City of Cusco. We proceed to the beautiful Town of Andahuaylillas, and visit the Church of San Pedro de Andahuaylillas, better known as the Sistine Chapel of the Americas, due to its decorated polychrome ceiling. Next is Raqchi, where we can see a spectacular Inca Sanctuary built by the Inca Pachacutec, and dedicated to the Inca God White God of Wiracocha. It was built to commemorate the visit of the bearded fair-skinned God who visited Raqchi and performed a miracle there. It has a great central wall with a stone base of fine Inca architecture. Other walls are made of giant adobe bricks. The structure also has two circular lateral columns. Near the Temple are several Inca silos that were once used for food storage. The Incas maintained an eleven year food supply. Then we continue to Sicuani where you will enjoy http://www.nephiproject.com/image031.png an Andean buffet lunch. On the way, we stop in LA RAYA pass at over 14,000 feet in altitude. The pass marks the ancient boundary between Puno and Cusco, and is a possible Book of Mormon battle site. We travel along the High Plateau of Collao, stopping at the town of Pukara to visit the impressive Temple of Kalasaya and the ruins from the ancient Pucara Empire, the probable capital of the Book of Mormon civilization of Zarahemla.

 

Bus presentations by George Potter will be made throughout the day.

Upon arrival at Lake Titicaca you will transfer to your hotel in Puno.

Day 10 UROS ISLANDS AND TAQUILE

Early transfer to the local dock on Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world. Your transfer will be on a local eco-transportation: a taxicholo!! After a 45 minutes boat ride you will get to the famous floating islands of the Uros Indians. The islands are inhabited by ancient people who are even now dedicated to fishing, hunting and trading. We will visit the LDS branch of the Uros Indians living on their own island due to persecution.

 

We then continue to Taquile Island, World Heritage Site known for the quality of the fabrics made mostly by men, because women are not allowed to do these crafts. You will have lunch in a typical restaurant belonging to the cooperative of the island. Visit the craft shops of the cooperative in the main square where they sell exceptional products of high quality made of alpaca wool.

Transfer back to your Hotel.

Day 11 JULIACA - LIMA

Transfer from the hotel to the local airport at Juliaca to take your flight back to Lima from where you will take your flight back to home.
